Taylor records overspend on sand and salt by $8,000
The District of Taylor is troubleshooting a 99 per cent variance in its municipal budget for road supplies caused by salt and sand purchases.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The District of Taylor is exploring solutions to salt and sand costs bringing one of its functions almost 100 per cent over budget.
During the December 1st committee of the whole meeting for the District of Taylor council, a financial report for July 1st to September 30th was reviewed.
According to the report, the city spent $9,925.77 on ‘roads and sidewalks materials and supplies.’ A budget breakdown included in the report noted the shortfall in the budget was due to salt and sand costs bringing the budget 99 per cent over budget.
The budget allocates $1,916 for roads and sidewalks materials and supplies. This year, the budget saw $979.68 in “unanticipated revenue” due to scrap metal and manhole part sales.
A solution for the shortfall requires a resolution from council, which occurred on December 1st, so staff will now explore what can be done.
Staff noted revenue is exceeding expectations for the quarter, and 36 per cent of the budgeted expenditures remain unspent as of September 30th
“Staff have noticed an organization-wide increase in utility costs this year, which may result in an overage near year-end and require a reallocation of funds,” the report stated.
