In addition to purchasing groceries, the team has also collected cash donations which they plan to use to sponsor two families during the festive season.
Estefania Albornoz, manager of fundraising and community engagement for the society, said that this donation will help meet the high demand during the Christmas season.

“Every client that we receive, they’re low-income families and most of the items that they mostly need, it’s food,” she said, adding that in the last year it had 15,000 visits to the Outreach Store.

Albornoz stresses on how important it is for businesses to help the Women’s Resource Society.
She said: “The economy has been hard in general, and people and individuals, they’re not donating as much as in previous years, but companies have a different economic muscle so it might be easier for them to give to the community, and also that creates community engagement. They get closer to the communities where they’re working.”
Additionally, the Peace Valley OSB team has partnered with Fort St. John Huskies to support the Fill the Bus campaign.
LP Building Solutions has collected over 400 lbs in food donations with a goal to collect 1,500 lbs of food for the hockey team’s event.
It has also posed a challenge to other local businesses to host their own internal food drives.
