DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — Firefighters in Dawson Creek are preparing to drive through the city celebrating the holidays and collecting toys and food for families in need.

The Dawson Creek Firefighters Charitable Society is partnering with the city itself to organize a Christmas parade and charity drive called ‘Code Red Christmas.’

The event, scheduled for December 12th, is described on Facebook as “an evening of trucks, lights, music and more.”

Throughout the parade, which is set to start outside the Dawson Creek Fire Hall located at 10101 12a Street, firefighters will be collecting donations from spectators.

All the donations will go towards St. Mark’s Food Bank, a local non-profit organization providing families in need with food.

Dena Batt, the food bank’s administrator, said in an interview with Energeticcity.ca she hopes to see firefighters collect some items that the food bank has had difficulty acquiring lately.

“We’re out of quite a few items right now,” Batt said. “One of the gentlemen [organizing the event], I had sent him a list of what our hampers carry all the time, that’s always needed, and then we just asked for stuff [food bank clients] usually don’t get.”

Those items include foods that are becoming prohibitively expensive like breakfast cereals and coffee, as well as items that aren’t donated frequently like condiments.

The Christmas parade is scheduled to begin outside the fire hall at 6:30 p.m. on December 12th.

Further parade route details have yet to be announced. Energeticcity.ca has contacted the Dawson Creek Fire Department for more details and will update this story with new information as it becomes available.
