Fort St. John soccer club low on registrants for women’s recreational league
The Fort St. John Women’s Soccer Association’s indoor league will kick off in mid-October and run until February 2026 – but is looking for more sign-ups.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The local soccer community is looking for more women to get their kicks from the beautiful game.
Registration for a recreational women’s league began in September, with a start date of Friday, October 17th organized by the Fort St. John Women’s Soccer Association.
Although in past years registrants have hovered around 100 participants, this year sees just 70-plus entrants with just 10 days until the registration deadline.
Entrants can range in both age and skill, according to the association’s social media liaison Katie Hollingshead.
She added that in previous years, two leagues – competitive and non-competitive – would run simultaneously.
“We have all joined as one [division] because we don’t have enough players to make two separate ones,” said Hollingshead.
“There are some [players] that are more advanced than others, and some that have never played before. We have players from 18 years old all the way up to 65.”

Hollingshead said she has been a lifetime soccer player, from the U-6 level and now into her mid-20s, saying soccer has more benefits than just fitness.
“It’s a social outing,” said Hollingshead. “[Players] get put on teams with people [they] don’t know. You can meet people your age. There’s also teamwork. You play together, and you learn how others operate and play.”
Rules will follow regulations for indoor soccer as stipulated by the Alberta Soccer Association, with penalties for handballs and fouls. Each game will be six-a-side, with five players and a goalkeeper.
Registration for players is $250 and there is a deadline of Friday, October 10th. A late fee of $50 will be charged to late entrants between Saturday, October 11th and Saturday, November 15th.
Those looking to register mid-season may do so, with a price of $125 to sign up from January to March.
The season plays in two phases: from Friday, October 17th to Friday, December 19th and then from Friday, January 9th to Monday, February 16th, 2026.
There will be two games per week at the Kids Arena Fieldhouse near the North Peace Arena. Games will be scheduled for Mondays, Fridays and Sundays. Two in-season tournaments are scheduled on the weekends of Friday, November 7th and Friday, February 20th, 2026.
