Fort St. John councillor re-elected to UBCM board

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Fort St. John city councillor Gord Klassen has been re-elected to the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) board of directors.

Klassen will serve another one-year term, from 2025 to 2026. He has been a member of the board since 2018 as a director at large. 

A director at large is a board member with no defined role, such as a president, but with all the roles and responsibilities of any other member. They participate in board meetings and have full voting rights.

Klassen shared the news in a September 28th Facebook post, saying he is “grateful and excited” to continue serving on the board, which represents municipalities and regional districts across the province.

“Serving on the board is a natural extension of my work with Fort St. John City council, and a meaningful way to represent our region at the provincial level,” Klassen wrote.

He added that his position allows him to connect with local leaders from across B.C., highlight the community’s successes, tackle shared challenges and learn from innovative approaches taking place elsewhere.

Klassen said the role also deepens his understanding of policy and governance, helping him grow as both a councillor and an advocate for Fort St. John.

“Looking forward to another year of collaboration, learning and impact,” he said.

The UBCM held its week-long 2025 convention last week, where several Fort St. John city councillors, including Klassen, attended.
