Dawson Creek breaks temperature day record amid unseasonably warm fall

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — A South Peace community has broken a temperature day record.

According to Environment Canada’s historical data archive, Wednesday, September 17th, 2025 was the hottest-ever September 17th in Dawson Creek since data began being recorded for the region.

The maximum temperature of 29.3 C surpassed the previous record of 25.0 C — set in 1982 — by nearly five full degrees.

This is the first temperature day record broken in September in the Peace region, following a string of records being broken in late August.

Other communities that set new day records on September 17th include Kamloops and Kelowna.

Environment Canada’s current forecast for the city indicates temperatures are expected to rise as high as 24 C over the coming days, mostly lingering in the low 20s and high teens with single-digit nighttime lows.
