Shailynn Foster, who was a reporter for Energeticcity.ca from 2022 to 2024, was nominated for her volunteer work with the Wellness Truth and Family Foundation.

“[Shailynn] has been a dedicated volunteer for Wellness Truth and Family Foundation since we incorporated,” the nomination letter reads.

“She has always been there to help with our at-risk youth both during and outside of group. She brings a strong perspective on social justice and values, making sure the youth of our future learn their rights not only as Canadian citizens, but their responsibilities to be good humans in our community as well.”

For Foster, receiving the award has been both exciting and humbling.

“It feels a little surreal to receive an award like this, because I know how many amazing people in this community do so much,” she said in a statement issued to Energeticcity.ca

“It is also an honour, especially considering I used to work [at Energeticcity.ca] and write about other Community Champions!”

Foster said she volunteers weekly with one of the foundation’s teen groups, offering conversation, support and hot meals. She also helps the teens design and sell items at local events, most recently the Moose FM Block Party, including cups, goodie bags and drinks.

“It’s rewarding to see them open up and take active roles at events, showing what they’re capable of,” Foster said.

The Co-op Community Champion program recognizes individuals in Fort St. John who make meaningful contributions to their community.

Congratulations to Shailynn Foster for being named September’s Co-op Community Champion. Each month, the winner is featured on Energeticcity.ca and receives up to $100 in vouchers from the Co-op.
