FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A nationwide discount retailer has been fined more than $100,000 by WorkSafeBC for a series of reported violations at its North Peace location.
According to a penalty summary posted to WorkSafeBC’s website, the agency imposed a $129,482.89 fine against Dollar Tree Canada on July 3rd following an inspection of its Fort St. John storefront.
The summary claims WorkSafeBC inspected the store and observed “multiple health and safety deficiencies.”
Those include a failure to ensure the rated capacity of storage racks was clearly posted and ensure material and equipment were stacked in a stable, secure manner, as well as failing to perform a violence risk assessment, all of which the agency called ‘high-risk violations.’
Additionally, WorkSafeBC reported a number of ‘repeated violations.’
These include failing to keep up-to-date written first aid procedures, provide required first aid attendants and services, ensure passageways and working space around electrical equipment was clear and provide workers with the training and education needed to ensure their health and safety.
Energeticcity.ca sent a media inquiry to Dollar Tree Canada requesting a statement regarding the fine, and did not receive an immediate response.
