Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Peace region, Fort Nelson

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Extreme weather in northeast B.C. is expected to continue today.

Environment Canada has issued another severe thunderstorm watch for the Peace region and Fort Nelson area, saying conditions are favourable on July 24th for the formation of storms capable of producing strong wind gusts, hail and heavy rain.

This comes after a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for the Peace region on Wednesday, July 23rd.

“Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible,” the agency’s website reads.

As per the latest hourly forecast for the Fort St. John area, showers or thunderstorms are expected throughout the afternoon on the 24th until roughly 8 p.m.

Meanwhile, for the Fort Nelson area, a rainfall warning is also currently in effect, with residents being told to expect between 50 and 90 millimetres of rain, tapering off early in the morning on Friday, July 25th.

No thunderstorms are currently listed in the hourly forecast for the Fort Nelson area.
