“Morgan came to Fort St. John in the fall of 1996 and played for three years with the Fort St. John Huskies,” Zimmer said in a video of Morgan’s medal presentation.

“Following his hockey career, [Morgan] started full-time with the Fort St. John Fire Department. [Morgan] has coached minor hockey in Fort St. John, and was fortunate enough to be able to coach his daughter Kennedy.”

Outside of working as a firefighter and with the local hockey community, Morgan has also worked as a representative of the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund since 2002.

He’s also the current president of the Fort St. John Firefighters Charitable Society.

“Together with his girlfriend Rachelle, they have made Fort St. John their home,” Zimmer said.

Morgan is one of more than 30,000 people across the country to receive a King Charles III Coronation Medal, issued to recognize “individuals who have made a significant contribution to a particular province, territory, region or community in Canada, or attained an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to our country.”

Other recipients in the region include Northern Rockies Regional Municipality councillor Lorraine Gerwig and three other Fort St. John residents.

Energeticcity.ca contacted Morgan for comment and did not receive a response in time for publication.
