Wildfire near Kimea Creek grows to over 1,600 hectares

Another wildfire in the Fort Nelson zone, in the Kimea Creek area, has surpassed the 1,000-hectare threshold as the region experiences an uptick in fire growth.

FORT NELSON, B.C. — Another wildfire in the Fort Nelson zone has surpassed the 1,000-hectare threshold as the area experiences an uptick in fire growth.

According to the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) website, the wildfire – located in the Kimea Creek area – has burned 1,672 hectares so far.

The fire – an overwintering blaze that initially ignited during a past wildfire season – was reportedly discovered on May 27th.

No evacuation alerts or orders have been issued as a result of the fire. 

News of its current size comes amid several other Fort Nelson wildfires also growing in the time since Canada Day.
