Evacuation alert updated for Summit Lake wildfire
The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality (NRRM) has updated its evacuation alert for the Summit Lake wildfire.

FORT NELSON, B.C. — The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality (NRRM) has updated the evacuation alert for the Summit Lake wildfire.
“There are wildfires still located in the Summit Lake and Tetsa River area,” reads the notice, which was issued on Thursday, June 19th.
NRRM said the update was issued at the recommendation of the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) due to “the potential danger to life and health.”

The new parameters surrounding the fire, now at 81,358 hectares, include:
- Along the Alaska Highway corridor from Summit Lake campground within Stone Mountain Provincial Park (kilometre 597.6 on the Alaska Highway).
- From the northwest point (58.7002301°N -124.6629235°W) to the southwest point of (58.6379116°N -124.6615072°W) and to the Steamboat Mountain brake check (kilometre 537.9 of the Alaska Highway).
- At the northeast point (58.7007022°N -123.7588335°W) to the southeast point (58.6454654°N -123.7583614°W).
The alerts advises residents to locate all family members and designate an agreed-upon meeting area outside the evacuation area; pack essentials such as identification, medication, eyeglasses, valuable papers and immediate care for dependents; move vulnerable people, children and neighbours if they require assistance; prepare to take pets; move livestock to a safe area; arrange transport for all household members; and arrange accommodations.
The NRRM has told those impacted to wait for an evacuation order to be issued before leaving, and monitor NRRM’s site for updates.
