FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A philanthropist who brings “energy, kindness and creativity into the classroom” is Pita Pit’s Teacher of the Month in June.

Dennette Saccary teaches all subjects to grades four and five at Robert Ogilvie Elementary School and has for seven years.

“I’m very honoured and very surprised, I didn’t expect this but I appreciate it that’s for sure,” said Saccary.

“As a teacher, you come in to school each morning to a hug or a high five or a funny story for you.

“You don’t always know what kind of morning or night they had, but they come in to school with smiles on their faces and are eager to learn, and that makes my heart happy.”

According to Saccary’s nomination letter, she “constantly goes above and beyond for both her students and the community.”

“She’s leading a BC SPCA drive, showing her dedication to helping animals and teaching the importance of giving back.”

Saccary said her class is involved in a volunteer program called ‘classroom champions,’ which raises donations from students for the BC SPCA and even arranged visits to the animal shelter building in Fort St. John last month.

“We had a school-wide collection and we brought them down and saw some kittens and had a little visit,” said Saccary.

The Teach of the Month Nominee said she always aims to instill moral and work ethics in her students.

“I always just try to get my students to work hard and try their best and have empathy for other students and have fun,” said Saccary.

The nomination letter also says Saccary “brings energy, kindness and creativity into the classroom every day, making learning engaging and meaningful.”

“Mrs. Saccary truly cares and it shows in everything she does from organizing community efforts to supporting every student’s success,” said the letter.

Saccary was originally teaching proper body mechanics at a physiotherapy clinic in Grace Bay, Nova Scotia, but found the teaching element the best part of the job and decided to pursue it as a career.

She first moved to Fort St. John in 2005, briefly taught at Taylor Elementary and taught at Upper Pine Elementary for 10 years before coming to Robert Ogilvie.

Congratulations to Dennette Saccary for being named June’s Pita Pit Teacher of the Month.

The monthly event is part of Moose Media and Pita Pit Canada’s mission to honour the teachers in the community.

Each month, the winner will receive a gift card worth up to $100 at Pita Pit and be highlighted in an article on Energeticcity.ca.
