GRANDE PRAIRIE, ALTA. — Even more Albertans displaced by a wildfire that began in B.C. can return home now, according to the County of Grande Prairie.
On June 12th, the county announced further changes to its existing evacuation order and alert for the Kiskatinaw River wildfire.
The county previously eased restrictions on June 11th, allowing some displaced evacuees to return to their homes. These new changes have come into effect due to “recent rainfall, favourable weather conditions and the continued efforts of firefighting crews.”
The new changes are as follows:
- Everyone north of Township Road 710 to Township Road 740, east of Range Road 132 to Range Road 130 can return home. This area remains on evacuation alert.
- The evacuation alert is outlined in the yellow area of the attached map. Residents in areas under an evacuation alert should be prepared to leave with 30 minutes’ notice.
- The evacuation order remains in effect for everyone north of Township Road 710 to 740, east of the British Columbia/ Alberta border to Range Road 132. The evacuation order is outlined in the red area of the attached map.
County residents are also urged to watch for updates on the fire via the BC Wildfire Service website, and to monitor road conditions on DriveBC.
