‘Being held’ Sundance Lake wildfire retracts significantly

One of the larger wildfires in the Prince George Fire Centre, the Sundance Lake blaze, has reduced significantly in size over the last 24 hours.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — One of the larger wildfires in the Prince George Fire Centre has reduced significantly in size over the last 24 hours.

The Sundance Lake wildfire – located between Dawson Creek and Chetwynd and near Highway 97 – has reportedly been reduced to just 60 hectares in size, down from 61,050.

The fire is also currently listed as “being held” by the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), meaning it’s not expected to grow beyond its current perimeter.

The fire was discovered on June 4th, and the following day, an evacuation alert was issued for the Sundance Lake area by the Peace River Regional District (PRRD).

That alert is still currently in effect.
