No primary structures damaged in Kelly Lake amid wildfire

BC Wildfire Service and the Peace River Regional District report no losses of primary structures in Kelly Lake amid the Kiskatinaw River wildfire.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The BC Wildfire Service is reporting no losses to primary structures in Kelly Lake due to the ongoing Kiskatinaw River wildfire. 

In a 3 p.m. public update on June 7th, the Peace River Regional District (PRRD) stated that according to the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) no primary buildings in the community of Kelly Lake have been lost to the Kiskatinaw River wildfire. 

“First responders remain in place and continue to work tirelessly to protect the community and critical infrastructure wherever it is safe to do so,” the PRRD stated.

This update comes less than 24 hours after new evacuation orders and alerts were issued on both sides of the B.C. Alberta border near the blaze, which has now grown to have burned 13,061 hectares.

The PRRD continues to advise all residents under an evacuation order to leave immediately, and those under an evacuation alert to be prepared to leave “on short notice.”
