Firefighters battle multiple wildfires in Fort Nelson zone
There were at least seven new fires discovered between Monday, May 26th and June 2nd.

FORT NELSON, B.C. — Multiple wildfires have crept up within the Fort Nelson zone within the past seven days.
At least seven fires, which were discovered between Monday, May 26th and June 2nd, range in size from 15 to over 800 hectares.

- A 15-hectare wildfire discovered on Monday, June 2nd, in an area near Heck Creek, west of the provincial border with Alberta.
- A 27-hectare incident located near Chasm Creek, near the Alberta Border.
- Another 27-hectare fire discovered on May 27th, four kilometres east of the Sikanni Old Growth forest.
- A fire reported on May 31st, northeast of the Klua Lakes area, measuring 112 hectares.
- A 166-hectare fire reported 10 kilometres east of the Peggo airstrip, again near the Alberta-B.C. border.
- A 546-hectare incident near the Fontas River reported on May 28th.
- A 828-hectare fire near Stetlandia River on May 26th.
Additionally, a 20-hectare fire was discovered near the Etthithun River late on June 2nd.
BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) said “suppression actions are being taken to limit the spread of these unwanted wildfires,” adding each fire’s suspected cause is believed to be a lightning strike.
