Odours possible with sewer maintenance underway in Fort St. John

The City of Fort St. John said sewer maintenance is being done around 94th Street to 86th Street and 112th Avenue to Northern Lights Drive.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Households in the northeast of Fort St. John may experience odours from sewer work over the next few days.  

In a May 27th Facebook post, the City of Fort St. John said contracted crews have started the maintenance to make sure sewer pipelines are functioning properly to ensure public health. 

“They will be in the area for the next several days working before undertaking inspection of the sewer mains,” said the post.

The operation could affect anyone between 94th Street to 86th Street and 112th Avenue to Northern Lights Drive. 

Residents may experience brief odours but can still use toilets, sinks and other appliances.

No chemicals will be used in the process and only high-pressure water will be used.

The city recommends keeping toilet lids closed and sink drains plugged when not in use.

“Additionally, regular flushing prevents build up, blockages and helps maintain our sewer system,” said the post.
