FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — School District 60 (SD 60) is set to receive a new school bus after the Ministry of Education and Child Care approved a late acquisition request.

The new internal combustion engine bus will have 70 to 75 seats.

SD 60 approved the acquisition in a capital bylaw during its May 20th meeting.

In April, SD 60 passed its original capital bylaw, in which the ministry approved $1.2 million for local school upgrades and four new buses to replace its older models.

Secretary-treasurer Angela Telford said the bylaw came after the district originally requested more school buses from the ministry and recently got a late approval.

“We asked for six buses and [the ministry] originally approved four and then they came through approving one more,” said Telford.
