Women’s Resource Society reports success of inaugural Spring Hygiene Week
The Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society said its first Spring Hygiene Week was a success, with health talk sessions and haircuts.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society (FSJWRS) said its first Spring Hygiene Week provided vital services for vulnerable individuals.
From May 12th to 15th, FSJWRS had a Northern Health nurse conduct daily health talk sessions with up to 25 people attending.
The topics covered in the sessions include lice, yeast Infections, foot hygiene and sexually transmitted infections.

The society also distributed 22 hygiene kits and 12 complimentary shower passes.
A total of 36 professional haircuts valued at $1,260 were coordinated: 22 for women, eight for men and six for children.
The society said these increased wellbeing and self-esteem.

“Our first Spring Hygiene Week was truly about dignity, care and connection,” said Amanda Trotter, executive director of FSJWRS.
Trotter thanked the community for the support that made the project happen.
“Alongside our on-site health team from Northern Health, and our dedicated volunteers and donors, we were able to help our clients feel seen, supported and empowered,” said Trotter.
Earlier this month, FSJWRS raised its intended goal four times in its most recent food drive.
