Dawson Creek emergency room closed for 6.5 hours due to ‘staffing challenges’
The emergency department at Dawson Creek and District Hospital has been closed until 10 p.m. on May 12th.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — Emergency healthcare is temporarily unavailable at the Dawson Creek hospital.
In a May 12th Facebook post, Northern Health said the emergency department services at Dawson Creek and District Hospital have been closed for this afternoon.
The health authority said the interruption is due to “unexpected and unavoidable staffing challenges.”

Services are expected to resume at 10 p.m. tonight.
Anyone needing life-threatening care is urged to call 911 for transportation to the nearest available facility.
Patients with non-urgent care needs should contact their primary care provider to make an appointment.
Anyone without a family doctor can call the NH Virtual Clinic at 1-844-645-7811 between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.

This comes after Energeticcity.ca revealed that between July 2024 and January 2025, Northern Health medical services in Chetwynd, Fort St. John, Fort Nelson, Tumbler Ridge and Dawson Creek closed 53 times, leaving residents without emergency medical care for more than 800 hours.
