FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — An annual colourful event will take over the campus of Northern Lights College in early June.

The eighth annual Colour Me Rotary Run/Walk, organized by the Sunrise Rotary Club of Fort St. John, features events at five or 10 kilometres, plus a one-kilometre run/walk for kids.

Designed as a fun athletic event, different stations around the course will see members from sponsorship groups throw chalk at the runners.

In addition, judging for costumes will take place prior to the event, with prizes up for grabs.

Sunrise Rotary Club of Fort St. John has hosted the Colour Me Rotary Run/Walk since 2017, and proceeds for each event have gone to a local non-profit. This year’s recipient will be the FSJ Cancer Support Circles Society.

The society, co-founded by Lisa Behrens and Brenda Baumeister, provides community-based peer support for individuals and their families affected by cancer.

“We’re excited,” said Behrens. “We’ll be down at the event to show what our charity is all about.”

Baumeister said: “It’s going to give us a chance to really support more people with our services.

“We’re ecstatic. It’s amazing that the rotary has chosen us.”

Registration is only open to the first 500 entrants, costs $30 and is available online.

The Colour Me Run/Walk takes place on Sunday, June 1st at Northern Lights College, with the event beginning at 9:30 a.m.
