DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The City of Dawson Creek is entering a new partnership designed to speed up its cat and dog licensing policy.

In an April 25th press release, the city announced its partnership with DocuPet, which it says will benefit Dawson Creek pet owners.

The agreement provides “convenient” online registration to all cat and dog owners in Dawson Creek who are required to hold valid licences for their pets.

DocuPet will also provide its HomeSafe lost pet service running 24 hour a day, seven days a week, which gives each pet a unique tag for its online profile.

This allows anyone who finds a missing pet to contact the service and aims to have the pet returned to its owners quickly.

The licensing tags can be upgraded with hundreds of styles and 20 per cent of each purchase will be donated to local animal welfare initiatives.

“Pet owners can personalize their pet’s tag by adding their phone number and pet’s name to the back for a nominal fee,” said the release.

New licences will also be provided, which remain valid for 365 days after purchase.

According to the city, all previous licences used to expire on December 31st each year, but with the new agreement, they will remain valid for a full year after the purchase date.
