FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Below are the latest sentences handed down from the Fort St. John and Dawson Creek Provincial Courts between March 17th and 21st. To view last week’s court report, click here.

Fort St. John Provincial Court sentencing, March 17th

Damien Apsassin (born 2001):

Apsassin was found guilty of assault for an incident in Fort St. John on May 26th, 2024. Apsassin was issued a suspended sentence, where the accused is given conditions to follow, as well as an 18-month probation order. Apsassin was also ordered to pay a $100 victim surcharge, which goes towards helping victims of a crime.

Valynda Veronica Davis (born 1989):

Davis was found guilty of two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count of assault, one count of theft, one count of breaching an undertaking and two counts of theft $5,000 or under for incidents in Fort St. John that took place between July of 2023 and May of 2024.

Davis was sentenced to 55 days in jail in addition to time served. Davis was also issued three 10-year firearm prohibitions, five 18-month probation orders and ordered to submit to forfeiture, which allows the government to seize property and assets “tainted” by crime.

Amanda Joelle Gehring (born 1992):

Gehring was found guilty of occupying a vehicle knowing a firearm was present and breaching a release order, for incidents in Fort St. John and Bouchie Lake in August of 2022 and February of 2025.

Gehring was sentenced to a total of 29 days in jail, and received an 18-month probation order and a 10-year firearm prohibition.

Braytin Daniel Lecuyer (born 1994):

Lecuyer was found guilty of theft $5,000 or under for an incident that took place in Fort St. John on September 14th, 2024. Lecuyer was issued a suspended sentence and a 12-month probation order.

Jessica Penner (born 2000):

Penner was found guilty of driving while prohibited and/or with a suspended licence for an incident in Fort St. John on May 1st, 2024. Penner was issued a $500 fine, a $75 victim surcharge and a one-year driving prohibition.

Tyson Michael Spiruda (born 1988):

Spiruda was found guilty of impaired operation by alcohol or drugs for an incident in Fort St. John on May 23rd, 2024. Spiruda was issued a $2,000 fine, a $300 victim surcharge and a one-year driving prohibition.

Christopher Stoner-Thiessen (born 1989):

Stoner-Thiessen was issued a $500 recognizance after the allegation for an incident in Taylor that took place on September 5th, 2024. If Stoner-Thiessen fails to follow the conditions laid out by the court, they’ll have to pay the $500.

Fort St. John Provincial Court sentencing, March 18th

Fraser Llewlyn Turnbull (born 1998):

Turnbull was found guilty of willfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer and three counts of breaching a release order for incidents in Fort St. John and Taylor from July to August of 2024. 

Turnbull was issued conditional sentences totalling one year. A conditional sentence is a sentence to be served outside of jail under strict conditions, sometimes called “house arrest.”

Turnbull was also issued four 12-month probation orders and $400 in victim surcharges.

Dawson Creek Provincial Court sentencing, March 18th

Tyler Lee Calliou (born 1987):

Calliou was found guilty of mischief for an incident in Dawson Creek on Feburary 12th, 2025. Calliou was sentenced to seven days in jail and received a two-year probation order.

Brian Jason Schwieger (born 1980):

Schwieger was found guilty of possession of a firearm contrary to an order and theft $5,000 or under for incidents in Dawson Creek that took place between May and August of 2024. 

Schwieger was issued a 30-day conditional sentence in addition to jail time served. They also received a 10-year firearm prohibition and a 12-month probation order.

James Sylvester Shearer (born 1988):

Shearer was found guilty of theft for an incident in Dawson Creek on November 6th, 2024. Shearer was issued a 120-day conditional sentence.

Joseph William Wason (born 1990):

Wason was found guilty of theft over $5,000 and breaching a release order, for incidents in Dawson Creek that took place between September of 2023 and August of 2024. Wason was also found guilty of several other charges, the details of which are under a publication ban.

For all of these guilty verdicts, Wason was sentenced to a combined total of 968 days in jail in addition to time already served. Wason also received eight 18-month probation orders, three three-year driving prohibitions and was ordered to pay $200 in victim surcharges.

Fort St. John Provincial Court sentencing, March 19th

Lance Alexis Corey Davis (born 1991):

Davis was issued a $500 recognizance after the allegation for an incident that took place on June 21st, 2023 in Fort St. John. If Davis fails to follow the conditions laid out by the court, they’ll have to pay the $500.

Davis was also found guilty of breaching a release order for an incident on November 18th, 2024 in Fort St. John. Davis was sentenced to jail time served.

Jared Rowe (born 1988):

Rowe was found guilty of theft $5,000 for an incident in Fort St. John on May 18th, 2024. Rowe was issued a conditional discharge, a 12-month probation order and was ordered to pay $3,705.89 in restitution, which requires the offender to pay the victim for financial losses the victim suffered because of the crime. A conditional discharge means the record won’t show a conviction if a person meets the conditions the judge sets.

Kenneth James Ernest Mcphee (born 1987):

Mcphee was found guilty of dangerous operation of a conveyance, two counts of driving while prohibited and/or with a suspended licence, possession and/or use of a stolen credit card, three counts of breaching a release order and theft $5,000 or under, for incidents in Fort Nelson and Fort St. John between March of 2020 and December of 2024.

Mcphee was sentenced to 28 days in jail in addition to time served. They were also issued six two-year probation orders, three two-year driving prohibitions, $1,000 in fines and $150 in victim surcharges.

Jared Allen Powell (born 1981):

Powell was found guilty of breaching an undertaking for an incident in Fort St. John on July 5th, 2024. Powell was issued a conditional discharge, a 12-month probation order and a $100 victim surcharge.

Dawson Creek Provincial Court sentencing, March 20th

Raymond Gale (born 1962):

Gale was issued a $500 recognizance after the allegation for an incident in Arras that took place on September 25th, 2023. If Gale fails to follow the conditions laid out by the court, they’ll have to pay the $500.
