City regains email access as cyber recovery continues

The City of Fort St. John has restored email services following week-long recovery from ‘cyber incident.’

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Recovery from the city’s cyber incident continues with the return of email service. 

The City of Fort St. John announced at 5 p.m. on March 3rd email services had been restored.

At around 9 a.m. on February 25th, an internet network outage was reported by the city, which was then recategorized as a “cyber incident” that evening. Experts were brought in, and the city has been restoring services since the incident.

A week later, email services have been restored, with the city confirming in the comments of a Facebook post that all emails sent during the outage are expected to be delivered. 

As of the March 3rd update post, the city has restored telephone and email services, are able to process payments, receivables and payables, and the ‘report a problem form’ and 3-1-1 phone system are all working. 

Energeticcity.ca contacted has contacted the city for details about the nature of the cyber incident, but it has yet to confirm any additional information.
