Extreme cold warning ends in Peace region
Temperatures are beginning to rise again in BC’s Peace region and Environment Canada has lifted its extreme weather warning.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Temperatures are beginning to rise again in B.C.’s Peace region and an extreme weather warning has been lifted.
As of 12:16 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5th, Environment Canada has ended its extreme cold warning for Peace River North and Peace River South.
The warnings were initially issued on January 31st, as temperatures reaching -40C were recorded.

The warning was only expected to last until February 1st, but it was extended several times with continued cold temperatures.
While the warning was in effect, Fort St. John was reportedly one of the coldest places on Earth, recording lower temperatures than some weather stations in Antarctica.
According to Environment Canada’s website, temperatures in Fort St. John are expected to rise to -15C tomorrow, with highs in the negative teens and overnight lows in the -20s for the rest of the week.
A similar warning was in effect for Grande Prairie and the surrounding area for several days, but has since ended.
