Extreme cold warning for Peace region extended until Tuesday

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — An extreme cold warning issued over the weekend for the Peace region has been extended.

Environment Canada now says the warning will last into the morning of Tuesday, February 4th.

The warning was initially posted on January 31st, as the wind chill was expected to fall below -40C overnight.

“Very cold temperatures combined with light northwesterly winds will continue to bring very cold wind chill values,” the warning now reads.

“Temperatures will warm during the daytime but overnight and into the mornings will continue to see wind chill values near -40.”

Residents are urged to layer up and cover as much skin as possible if they need to go outside, to reduce the risk of frostbite.
