FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — $30,000 has been donated to a local seniors’ home to help pay for specialized beds to ensure residents’ comfort.

According to the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation, Canadian Natural Resources donated the money on Friday, January 17th to the foundation’s Peace Villa Fund, supporting the retirement community located on hospital property.

Local executives and staff members from the company visited the hospital to make the donation.

Executive director Kelly Amboe says the company’s representatives were then given a guided tour of the facility by Pat Evans, its manager, and Sheila McLeod, its residential care coordinator.

“During the tour, [Evans] shared what daily life for the residents in Peace Villa looks like and the growing need in our community for more long-term care beds as our community ages,” Amboe says.

The money from this donation will be put towards buying “alternating-pressure mattresses”, a special kind of mattress designed to provide comfort for people who need to spend a significant amount of time in bed.

Last year, the hospital purchased four similar mattresses using $25,000 donated by Canadian Natural Resources in September of 2023. Company representatives were able to see those four mattresses in use during their tour.

“The afternoon was a wonderful, shared opportunity for the Canadian Natural team to witness the impact of their generosity and meet the passionate leaders at Peace Villa,” Amboe says.
