Court Report: January 20th to 24th

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Below are the latest sentences handed down from the Fort St. John and Dawson Creek Provincial Courts from January 20th to 24th.

Fort St. John Provincial Court sentencing, January 20th

Ian Stephen Rousselle (born 1979):

Rousselle was found guilty of two counts of assault, and one count each of breaking and entering to commit an indictable offense and assaulting a peace officer, for an incident in Charlie Lake on June 17th, 2024. Rousselle was sentenced to jail time served, received four two-year probation orders, issued a 10-year firearm prohibition and ordered to report for DNA sample collection.

Dawson Creek Provincial Court sentencing, January 20th

Derrick Stanley Hislop (born 1975):

Hislop was found guilty of storage of a firearm contrary to regulations, for an incident in Pouce Coupe on April 25th, 2023. Hislop was issued a $1,500 fine, a two-year firearm prohibition, and a $450 victim surcharge, which goes towards benefitting the victims of a crime. Hislop was also subjected to forfeiture, which allows the government to seize property and assets “tainted” by crime.

Daniel John Querin (born 1974):

Querin was found guilty of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, willfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer, flight from police, refusal, and two counts of driving while disqualified under the Canadian Criminal Code, for incidents in Dawson Creek that took place between April and September of 2024.

Querin was sentenced to a combined total of 912 days in jail, and was issued criminal driving prohibitions for a combined total of 11 years.

Robert James Sinclair (born 1991):

Sinclair was found guilty of breaking and entering and committing an indictable offense, mischief $5,000 or under, careless use or storage of a firearm, possessing a firearm with an altered serial number, and two counts of loading and/or unloading a prohibited and/or restricted firearm, for incidents in Dawson Creek between July of 2023 and January of 2024.

Sinclair was sentenced to 132 days in jail in addition to time served, and was issued six 18-month probation orders, two 10-year firearm prohibitions, and subjected to forfeiture.

Dawson Creek Provincial Court sentencing, January 21st

Adam Lloyd Norman Kerr (born 1992):

Kerr was found guilty of mischief, breaching a release order, mischief $5,000 or under, and breaking and entering and committing an indictable offense, for incidents in Vancouver, Prince George and Dawson Creek between September of 2023 and April of 2024. 

Kerr was sentenced to jail time served and issued $500 in victim surcharges. 

Kerr was also issued a nine-month conditional sentence, which is a sentence to be served outside of jail under strict conditions, sometimes called “house arrest”, and ordered to pay $1,000 in restitution, which requires the offender to pay the victim for financial losses the victim suffered because of the crime.

Stacy Ray Laglace (born 1987):

Laglace was found guilty of the the following:

• Theft $5,000 or under
• Theft over $5,000
• Breaching an undertaking
• Arson damaging property
• Mischief obstructing the use and/or enjoyment of property
• Breaching a probation order
• Driving while disqualified under the Canadian Criminal Code
• Possession of stolen property over $5,000
• Mischief to property over $5,000
• Two counts of assault with intent to resist arrest

The incidents these charges are related to took place in Big Lake, Groundbirch, and Dawson Creek, between March 1st and April 1st, 2024.

Laglace was sentenced to jail time served, and issued 10 18-month probation orders and a three-year driving prohibition.

Travis Norman Walker (born 1987):

Walker was found guilty of theft $5,000 or under for an incident in Dawson Creek on January 26th, 2024. Walker was issued a suspended sentence, where the accused is given conditions to follow. Walker was also issued a six-month probation order.

Fort St. John Provincial Court sentencing, January 22nd

Michael Frederick Wydenes (born 1969):

Wydenes was found guilty of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and criminal harassment, for incidents in Fort St. John that took place between December 4th and 6th, 2023. Wydenes was issued a combined 120 days of conditional sentences, and received two 2-year probation orders.

Fort St. John Provincial Court sentencing, January 24th

Grayson Ward Sparks (born 1991):

Sparks was found guilty of mischief $5,000 or under, impaired operation by alcohol or drugs, and three counts of breaching a release order, for incidents in Fort St. John that took place between May and November of 2024. 

Sparks was sentenced to 66 days in jail in addition to time already served, and was also issued a one-year driving prohibition and five 12-month probation orders.
