District looks to renew license for island
The District of Taylor has voted to renew a development licence for an island near Peace Island Park.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The District of Taylor has voted to renew a development licence for an island near Peace Island Park.
At the January 13th regular council meeting, district staff brought the license of occupational renewal request to the council for the northernmost island near Peace Island Park. The island is currently undeveloped, and has a license set to expire on April 26th, 2025.
The license grants the district non-exclusive use of the land, and allows for minimal improvements with the consent of the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship. Having the license allows for ‘potential future utilization of the land’ for enhancement of the park.
Staff are currently reviewing and updating the Peace Island Park North Island Management Plan as a part of the application process, leaving the future open to development opportunities on the island.
In addition to approving the application to be made, the council also approved updates to the Peace Island Park Policy, including changes to special event booking, check-in and check-out times, as well as seasonal openings and the use of ATVs.
