Police close Highway 97 in Okanagan for an assault investigation
KELOWNA, B.C. — RCMP in Kelowna, B.C., say they have closed Highway 97 to all traffic while officers investigate an assault.
Police say the attack happened in the early morning hours on Friday.
They have closed the route between Beaver Lake and Old Vernon roads, from north of Kelowna International Airport into the District of Lake Country.
Police say vehicles are being turned back in both directions and motorists are asked to avoid the area.
They don’t say how serious the assault injuries are or when the highway might be reopened.
Highway 97 is the main artery connecting the main cities in the Okanagan region, including between Kelowna and Vernon, B.C., where the closure is in place.
