Man arrested in Prince George murder investigation

A man in Prince George has been arrested and taken into RCMP custody in relation to a murder in July 2023.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – A man in Prince George has been arrested and taken into RCMP custody in relation to a murder in July 2023.

Clarence Lee Engstrom, a 55-year-old Prince George resident was arrested on October 19th following the issuance of a warrant by the Prince George Crown Counsel office in relation to the murder of Lydia McFarlane in July 2023.

Engstrom has been a suspect in the murder since shortly after McFarlane’s body was found in her Victoria Street residence on July 17th, 2023.

“The Serious Crime Unit and other specialized police services have been working on this investigation since the outset in order to see this matter brought before the courts. Sufficient evidence was obtained to allow Crown Counsel to approve the charge of second-degree murder,” Staff Sergeant Aaron Whitehouse, commander of the Serious Crime Unit said in a press release.

Engstrom is currently being held in police custody.
