TAYLOR, B.C. — Taylor Speedway is set to deliver hot racing action over the August long weekend.

With hot action all summer, the International Motor Class Association (IMCA) modified racers take centre stage along the 3/8th mile track, sponsored by CAPS Transport.

Also known as modified stock cars, IMCA modifieds are hybrid-type vehicles with parts from open-wheel racers and stock vehicles.

Raceway volunteer Melany Ferguson says the three-day weekend event is one of the raceway’s popular events, along with the Hit-to-Pass races.

She says she expects competitors to travel to Taylor like no other race over the season.

“It’s not just the usual local drivers,” said Ferguson.  “You may see racers from Calgary or Rimbey [Alberta] or from southern B.C.  We’ve even seen drivers come from as far as Saskatchewan.”

“With a three-day event, the drivers have more time to get here and set up.  If their car does break down, they have an extra night to race.”

According to Ferguson, five classes of races will be staged each night at the raceway, including Bomber cars (race cars with a limited budget), sports class cars, and mini stocks (four-cylinder modified cars). Points toward the IMCA will be tabulated to determine placing in each race.

“It will have to do with starting position,” said Ferguson. “So, if you start in seventh and finish first, that will give you more IMCA race points going forward.”

Two heats and then a main event for the competitors will be held each night, says Ferguson.

Modified lawn mower races and mini-sprints will also be contested over the weekend.

The racing will start on August 2nd at 7 p.m., with Mini-Sprint and mower heats to begin on August 3rd and August 4th at 1 p.m.

Tickets for the event are available online. They start at $7.45 for Adults and $3.75 for children and seniors.
