DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — Dawson Creek RCMP Acting Staff Sergeant Rob Hughes says human remains were found near the Kiskatinaw River over the weekend.

According to Hughes, officers received a call from an industrial worker alerting them to human remains found at the end of Parkland Pit Road on Saturday, May 18th, in the early afternoon.

The North District Major Crimes Unit has taken control of the investigation.

“Our Forensic Identification Section and the [BC Coroners Service] are working to confirm identity by DNA and dental charts and the like,” Hughes said.

Hughes wouldn’t provide more details about the remains but said he expected them to be identified by the end of the week and added that a media release would be issued afterward.

This discovery comes exactly one month after another set of human remains were found near the city in April.

When those remains were discovered, a stretch of road in the city was closed for several days due to the ongoing police investigation.

Sergeant Hughes says police are still investigating the newly discovered remains but have concluded their work at the scene, so there won’t be any road closures.
