FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — BC Transit’s new contactless payment system has arrived in Fort St. John and Dawson Creek.

The “Umo” platform allows BC Transit bus riders to pay their fare using refillable cards, which are available for free at BC Transit vendors or via a mobile app.

The system uses “validator” machines installed at the front of each bus that riders either tap their card against or use to scan a QR code displayed by their phone.

Residents who want to learn more about the Umo system can attend an information session being hosted by BC Transit.

Last week, the agency announced it planned to host five such sessions in the Peace region over the course of this week.

A schedule of the information sessions is available here, and a basic explanation of how the system works, including video demonstrations, can be found here.
