FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – For the first time in four years, the Fort St. John and District Chamber of Commerce’s annual Creating Energy Northern Resource Conference will be held in person.

The last several years have seen the conference held virtually due to COVID-19 health and safety restrictions, but this year’s event will be held at the Ramada by Wyndham Northern Grand Hotel on May 21st and 22nd.

Executive director Tiffany Hetenyi says it feels good to have the event in person again.

“We get a lot more out of it, I find, than over Zoom,” Hetenyi says. Even though there are great benefits to having the Zoom options, it’s a far more interactive networking opportunity, and you get more opportunities to ask questions.”

The Chamber is hosting the first day of the conference, which will focus on “the latest advancements, innovations and collaborations driving the energy sector forward,” according to a press release.

Day one will include presentations from the president and CEO of BC Hydro, the CEO of the First Nations LNG Alliance, and a Hydrologist from the BC Energy Regulator.

Hetenyi says Energy Safety Canada will host day two.

“There’s mental health awareness, a regional wildfire report and presentation, some regulatory updates, and human and organization performance,” she explains.

“It’s a lot of meetings within the industry and getting some information about the industry, and it’s all about partnerships, so everything will tie into how you can partner in the energy industry.”

After those two days of meetings, the chamber is hosting a golf tournament at Lakepoint Golf and Country Club on May 24th.

“There’s cocktails and dinner afterwards, and everybody gets a prize for the golf tournament, so everybody walks away with something,” Hetenyi says.
