DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – Firefighters saved a resident trapped on the third floor of an apartment building on fire in Dawson Creek Tuesday night.
Dawson Creek Fire Chief Marcel Capelle says the department received a report of a fire at Crestview Manor, located at 1617 108 Avenue, at approximately 10:00 PM on Tuesday.
“When the responding unit arrived on the scene, heavy flames were coming out of the third floor, west side of the building,” Capelle says.
Most of the residents were evacuated safely, except for one person on the third floor who was rescued through a window, Capelle adds.
He also says firefighters outside were lucky to put out the blaze almost immediately after arriving.
“We got it extinguished fairly rapidly,” he explains. “We were on scene for approximately two hours.”
According to Capelle, no injuries were reported, and most of the people who live inside Crestview Manor should be able to return to their homes later this week.

“The one room on the third [floor] is totally destroyed,” he says. “So, they’ll have to figure that out, whoever lives there, but we’re hoping fairly soon everyone else can go home.”
For now, Capelle says the people who have been displaced are staying at the Pomeroy Inn in Dawson Creek.
