Fort St. John product inks WHL Scholarship, Development Agreement with Portland Winterhawks

Fort St. John forward David Hoy has signed a Western Hockey League Development Agreement with the Portland Winterhawks Hockey Club.

PORTLAND, ORE. — Fort St. John forward David Hoy has signed a Western Hockey League (WHL) Development Agreement with the Portland Winterhawks Hockey Club. 

According to a release from the Winterhawks, the 16-year-old centre was added to the club’s 50-man protected list following his under-17 season after remaining undrafted during the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft.  

Currently, Hoy plays for the Okanagan Hockey Academy (OHA) U18 Prep AAA program in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League. Ranking sixth on the team in scoring, Hoy’s record is eight goals, 13 assists, and 21 points in 26 games.

In his four years with the OHA program, Hoy accumulated 93 points in 98 regular-season games. 

According to the release, the Winterhawks are “pleased to announce” the signing of Hoy.

“This is a player whose play was recognized last season, listed as team captain of the U17 Prep team last year at OHA, and continued to progress his overall game this season,” the release states.

“David projects as a player who will bring a competitive, physical game at centre to our lineup and add valuable depth to our group next season.”

Hoy participated in the Winterhawks 2023 Neely Cup and scored four goals as a member of Team Yaremchuk during the club’s training camp.
