Below are the latest sentences handed out from the Fort St. John and Dawson Creek Provincial Courts from February 20th to 23rd.

Fort St. John Provincial Court, February 21st sentencing:

Missouri Clayton Cooper Abney (born 1984)

Abney was found guilty of breach of undertaking, three counts of breach of release order, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, uttering threats to burn, destroy or damage personal property and uttering threats.

The incidents occurred in Fort St. John from August 2023 to February 2024.

Abney was given 18 months probation, a suspended sentence, jail time served, conditional sentences and victim surcharges totalling $300, which goes towards helping victims of a crime.

A suspended sentence is where the accused is given conditions to follow, and a conditional sentence is a sentence to be served outside of jail under strict conditions, sometimes called “house arrest.” 

Bernice Ann Lilly (born 1972)

Lilly was found guilty of assault for an incident in Wonowon on October 2nd, 2023. Lilly was given a three-month conditional sentence, a 12-month probation order and a $100 victim surcharge.

Dawson Creek Provincial Court, February 20th sentencing:

Alexander Richard Samuel Collins-Isadore (born 1999)

Collins-Isadore was sentenced for causing fear of injury or damage to a person or property for an incident in Fort Nelson on September 24th, 2022. Collins-Isadore was given a $500 12-month recognizance after the allegation. 

If they break the conditions laid out by the court, they must pay the $500.

Derek Robert James Ward (born 1993)

Ward was found guilty of robbery for an incident on August 4th, 2022, in Dawson Creek. Ward was also found guilty of theft of $5,000 or under for an incident in Dawson Creek on July 17th, 2022. 

Ward was given a 12-month probation order, a suspended sentence, a 45-day conditional sentence and victim surcharges totalling $300.

Zane Steven Joseph Whitford (born 2004)

Whitford was found guilty of assault for an incident in Dawson Creek on April 30th, 2023. Whitford was given a conditional discharge and a seven-month probation order.

A conditional discharge means the record won’t show a conviction if a person meets the conditions the judge sets.
