FORT ST. JOHN B.C. — Councillors Sarah MacDougall and Jim Lequiere were appointed liaisons to the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) during council’s February 26th meeting.
Councillor Byron Stewart had previously served on the advisory board for many years but will now be stepping down, with MacDougall taking his place.
“[Stewart] is thanked for the positive contributions he has made as a representative of council on YAC,” said corporate officer Bonnie McCue in her report to council.
The YAC was developed in 2010 as a solution for anti-social behaviour in the community and aims to enhance the quality of life by providing information, resources, and leadership to the youth in Fort St. John and city council.
“The YAC provides an opportunity for Council to remain informed of issues which affect youth in our community,” said Chief Administrative Officer Milo MacDonald in the report.
The advising group is comprised of students aged 12 to 18. The youth council encourages there to be three representatives from North Peace Secondary, Bert Bowes and Dr. Kearney Middle Schools. Members are selected for a one-year term.
The councillors will remain liaisons until the next local election in Fort St. John.
