Below are the latest sentences handed out from the Fort St. John and Dawson Creek Provincial Courts from February 5th to 9th.

Fort St. John Provincial Court, February 5th sentencing:

Luke Jordan Anderson (born 1987)

Anderson was found guilty of possession for the purpose of trafficking for an incident in Fort St. John on November 1st, 2021. Anderson was sentenced to a forfeiture, jail time served and a 10-year prohibition from firearms. 

A forfeiture allows the government to seize property and assets “tainted” by crime.

Thomas Anthony Bishop (born 1989)

Bishop was found guilty of mischief of $5,000 or under for an incident in Dawson Creek on January 20th, 2023. Bishop was given an 18-month probation order, a suspended sentence and a $100 victim surcharge, which goes towards helping victims of a crime. A suspended sentence is where the accused is given conditions to follow.

Bishop was also found guilty of assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and assault for an incident in Fort St. John on January 24th, 2023. Bishop was sentenced to a 180-day conditional sentence, a five-year prohibition from firearms, victim surcharges totalling $300 and ordered to submit a DNA sample.

A conditional is a sentence to be served outside of jail under strict conditions, sometimes called “house arrest.” 

Kyle Clinton Fournier (born 1991)

Fournier was found guilty of driving while prohibited or with a suspended license for an incident in Halfway River First Nation on August 20th, 2023. Fournier was given fines totalling $575, including a victim surcharge.

Fort St. John Provincial Court, February 7th sentencing:

Isaiah Edward Behn (born 1984)

Behn was found guilty of assault, assault with a weapon and mischief of $5,000 or under for an incident in Fort Nelson on November 11th, 2023. Behn was sentenced to jail time served, one-year probation, victim surcharges totalling $300, six days in jail, a lifetime prohibition from firearms and ordered to submit a DNA sample.

Behn was also found guilty of possessing a firearm without a licence or registration for an incident in Fort St. John on November 20th, 2022. Behn was sentenced to forfeiture and fines totalling $2,600, including a victim surcharge.

Wayne Jonathan Naves (born 1977)

Naves was found guilty of breach of probation order, breach of release order, motor vehicle theft, impaired operation of a conveyance, dangerous operation of a conveyance, mischief, willfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer, refusal to comply with a demand and causing unnecessary pain or suffering to an animal.

The offences occurred between May and November 2023.

Naves was sentenced to jail time served, an 18-month probation order, a one-year prohibition from driving,168 days in jail, and $3,600 in fines, including victim surcharges.

Fort St. John Provincial Court, February 8th sentencing:

Clifford Ryan Poole (born 1987)

Poole was found guilty of four counts of theft of $5,000 or under, breach of release order, breach of undertaking, possession of stolen property under $5,000, possessing or using a stolen credit card, and wilfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer.

The offences occurred in Fort St. John from December 2022 to February 2024.

Poole was sentenced to jail time served,  12 months probation, 31 days in jail and $700 in victim surcharges.

Fort St. John Provincial Court, February 9th sentencing:

Jayson Lee Delorme (born 1982)

Delorme was found guilty of breaching a release order for an incident in Fort St. John on September 24th, 2022. Delorme was ordered to submit a DNA sample and given a 12-month probation order.

Jennifer Lee Zammit (born 1977)

Zammit was found guilty of refusing to comply with an order for an incident on February 22nd, 2023, in Fort St. John. Zammit was given a $2,000 fine, a 20-month probation order and a 20-month prohibition from driving.

Dawson Creek Provincial Court, February 5th sentencing:

Paddy James Courtoreille (born 1968)

Courtoreille was found guilty of breach of release order and assault causing bodily harm for incidents in Moberly Lake on September 22nd, 2023 and October 17th, 2023. Courtoreille was given 18 months probation, ordered to submit a DNA sample and a three-year prohibition from firearms.

Gaven Jimmy John Jackson (born 2000)

Jackson was found guilty of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose for an incident in Dawson Creek on October 14th, 2022. Jackson was given a conditional discharge, a forfeiture, a one-year probation order and a three-year prohibition from firearms.  

A conditional discharge means the record won’t show a conviction if a person meets the conditions the judge sets.

John William Junior Ominayak (born 1983)

Ominayak was found guilty of theft of $5,000 or under, breach of release order and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm for incidents in Dawson Creek on April 24th, 2023. Ominayak was given jail time served and a one-year probation order.

Dawson Creek Provincial Court, February 7th sentencing:

Vicki Lynn-Rice Ominayak (born 1983)

Ominayak was found guilty of theft of under $5,000, assault and assault with a weapon for incidents that occurred in Dawson Creek on June 27th, 2021 and August 25th, 2021. Ominayak was sentenced to a two-year probation order, jail time served and ordered to submit a DNA sample.
