Hudson’s Hope developing new official community plan

HUDSON’S HOPE. B.C. — The District of Hudson’s Hope is developing a new official community plan and has asked residents for their input on it.

An open house was held on November 4th, inviting residents to the local community hall to share their thoughts. 

The new plan will guide decisions about the future of the district for key areas such as housing, land use, social well-being, infrastructure, sustainability, transportation and more. 

“Once adopted, all decisions related to development need to be consistent with the Official Community Plan,” explains the district’s website. 

An online survey is being held until this Friday to gather input from those who may have missed the open house. 

Downtown Hudson’s Hope, Beryl Prairie, Lynx Creek, Thompson Subdivision, Jamieson Subdivision, and Peace River Regional District Electoral Areas B and E are included in the survey. 

The survey asks a wide variety of questions about the quality of life in the town and what amenities and services could make it better. It also looks ahead by 20 years, asking what life could be like by 2044.

Priorities in the current Official Community Plan are that Hudson’s Hope is “a community that is open to accommodate a wide range of people, including families, youth and seniors” and that their “community is built to last,” notes the survey. 

The town was first settled along the Peace River in 1805 and is considered the third-oldest European-Canadian community in the province, although it was not incorporated until 1965. According to the 2021 census, 841 people live in Hudson’s Hope.
