DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — Tremblay Elementary School in Dawson Creek was on lockdown for under an hour on Friday while the local RCMP conducted a search warrant nearby.

Sergeant Shawn Peddle with the Dawson Creek RCMP says officers began the search warrant with the assistance of Prince George’s emergency response team around 11 a.m. on 116th Avenue.

“Given the nature of the warrant, what we were looking for, and the schools [proximity] to the residence, we decided to lock down the school as a precaution,” Peddle said.

“We didn’t perceive any threats to the school, we just took the precaution, and once the residence was secured, we lifted the lockdown.”

The sergeant says the school was a couple of blocks away and was on lockdown for approximately 50 minutes.

Because the investigation is still ongoing, Peddle could not share any additional information.
