Slowing down will give drivers more time to react and decrease the chances of severe injury or damage.

Neustaeter says good winter tires are required on local roadways from October 1st to April 30th each winter.

Acceptable winter tires are designated with the M+S, mud and snow or mountain and snowflake symbols. The tires should also have at least 3.5 millimetres of tire depth.

Tire chains are also an option and can provide the necessary traction to navigate slippery roads.
