FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Fort St. John RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on the Alaska Highway, which created the circumstances for a second collision in the area.

Constable Chad Neustaeter of the Fort St. John RCMP says the detachment received a report of a two-vehicle collision on the Alaska Highway south of the Mile 98 Road just before 6 p.m. on November 7th.

A southbound semi stopped for flaggers, and the pickup truck following could not stop and collided with the tanker.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Neustaeter says police attended the scene and found the initial collision had stopped traffic and created circumstances where a second collision occurred.

A semi with a flat deck trailer headed northbound stopped on a slight incline but began to slide backward down the hill due to the icy road conditions.

The driver of a freight bus tried to avoid the sliding trailer but was hit and damaged.

Neustaeter says the poor road conditions were attributed to compact snow and ice.

No further injuries were reported.
