Council has proclaimed November 12th to 18th as Speed Skating Week in Fort St. John.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Council has proclaimed November 12th to 18th as Speed Skating Week in Fort St. John.
During a council meeting on October 23rd, Karen Mason-Bennett of the Fort St. John Elks Speed Skating Club delivered a presentation, providing some background information on the club and its dedication to promoting the sport of speed skating locally.
The club was established in 1964 and was the second club to join the BC Speed Skating Association.

Mason-Bennett said the club is made up of a strong volunteer base of coaches and staff who dedicate countless hours of their time to the sport each week, which they receive no payment for.
During Speed Skating Week, the Elks will invite the community to celebrate and bring awareness to the sport.
On November 13th, the Elks will host a Skate with an Olympian event featuring Fort St. John speed skater Denny Morrison. Then, on November 15th, the club will celebrate its volunteers with an appreciation night.
