Klua Lakes area evacuation order rescinded

The evacuation order for the Klua Lakes area has been lifted, according to the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality.

FORT NELSON, B.C. — The evacuation order for the Klua Lakes area has been lifted, according to the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality.

The order was implemented on Friday due to a wildfire in the area and was rescinded on Tuesday, May 23rd.

The Klua Lakes wildfire is approximately 22,675 hectares in size and is still considered out of control.

The NRRM says the wildfire is located approximately 35 km east of the community of Prophet River.

Due to the potential danger to life and health, an evacuation alert remains in effect for the following area (as shown in the image above):

  • Bounded on the south by the NRRM/PRRD boundary;
  • From a point on the west side at longitude 122 16.03W arched up to a northern point at latitude 58 17.52’N;
  • From a point on the east side at longitude 121 00.45W arched up to a northern point at latitude 58 17.52’N.

For more information, residents are asked to contact the NRRM’s Emergency Operations Centre at 250-774-2541.
