FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Fivestar Boxing Academy’s Wyatt Bowler is a YYC Cup Western Finals champion after winning his matches at last weekend’s event.

Bowler entered the ring twice at the YYC Cup and, after two close fights, won the 40 Kilogram Junior-A division.

According to Fivestar owner and head coach Justin Donally, the 11-year-old boxer felt some nerves throughout the weekend but managed to get them under control, leading to his success.

“ I figured he would do well because I’ve seen him compete before, and he loves to compete,” said Donally.

“He came out, he fought hard, and gave everything he had. He’s a new boxer, he’s young, and I’m excited to see his progression.”

Last weekend’s wins weren’t Bowler’s first, he found success at the Beatty Beatdown last March, winning his bout.

The YYC Cup Western Finals were Bowler’s last competitive matches before heading into the summer. Donally says all of his boxers will take a break from competitive boxing during the summer months before getting back in the ring in early fall.
