BC Hydro’s GO fund provides $70K to eight non-profits

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — BC Hydro is providing $70,000 to eight Peace Region non-profits through the Site C project’s Generate Opportunities (GO) Fund.

The GO Fund will give $2,449 to the Hudson’s Hope Fall Fair so low-income families can attend the dinner and dance later this year.

The Hope for Health Society in Hudson’s Hope is receiving $10,000 to hold a three-day community wellness conference for 150 participants, according to BC Hydro.

The Friends of Hudson’s Hope Food Bank is receiving $9,535 to upgrade a space to house the food bank.

The House of Hope Community Church will receive $8,947 for new equipment and toys for the afterschool program.

BC Hydro says the Project Thunderbird Society is receiving $10,000 for the Guitar Build Camp, which teaches Indigenous youth how to build a guitar.

The Chetwynd Meals on Wheels Society will recieve $10,000 to provide more seniors with home-delivered meals.

The Chetwynd Community Arts Council is receiving $9,000 from the fund to host three group sessions of Synergy Ceramics to allow people to create and paint their pots.

BC Hydro is giving March of Dimes Canada $10,000 for its After Stroke BC program, which offers personalized stroke recovery that reportedly connects stroke survivors with one-on-one case management expertise.

The GO Fund was established in 2016 to support Peace Region non-profits throughout Site C’s construction and has given $728,651 to 83 projects since then.

Northern Development Initiative Trust administers the fund, which accepts applications on an ongoing basis. Funds are distributed quarterly.
