UPDATE: Northern Metalic donates new tank to CM Finch

 UPDATE: The Northern Environmental Action Team took to social media to thank Northern Metalic for donating a replacement water tank.

“Thank you so much to our amazing community for the outpouring of offers to replace the Finch Elementary School water tank! It just shows again what a generous, caring place we live in and get to call home,” the organization said in their post.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Another water tank has been stolen from a local school.

Upon hearing about the theft at Ma Murray School over the weekend, the Northern Environmental Action Team decided to check on school gardens that participate in its food security program.

They discovered that one of their tanks at CM Finch had also been stolen.

“It is very disheartening to put so much work into building a beautiful garden so a new generation of little humans can learn about food security,” said NEAT in a Facebook post.

Two water tanks are kept at each school to avoid the cost of water delivery on NEAT’s Food Secure Kids Program.

“The students and teachers are excited and looking forward to the start of FSK in their school and this definitely puts a little shadow over that joy.”

NEAT is asking anyone with information about the theft to contact them.

The organization is asking for the tank back, “no questions asked”.

Ma Murray received an outpouring of community support on Monday after their tank was stolen.

“We’ve had at least forty businesses and individuals offer to give us a water tank. And we’ve had a lot of phone calls this morning offering donations of money to purchase one as well,” said principal Kathy Scheck.

Ma Murray received a replacement tank from United Rentals and will be getting a second tank thanks to a donation from Knappett Industries.
